Abacus Updates

What Abacus Cooked Up In 2018

Our review of an eventful year — with a link to a special holiday gift at the end.

This year was pretty epic at Abacus. So much has happened and we have so much to be thankful for. As 2018 comes to a close (can you believe it went so fast?) we want to share some of our favorite parts of the year.

Acquisition & Growth Announcement

The biggest event in 2018 happened in July, with our acquisition by travel and expense company Certify, Inc. That month, we also surpassed 1,000 customers. Those two milestones mark how much the company has grown, as a team and as a product.

New Features and Improvements

Every year we focus on a theme to help guide our product roadmap. In 2018, our goal was “to become the #1 mid-market expense management solution.” So this year, we focused on projects that we believed would help mid-size and growing companies improve their expense reporting workflow.

A couple of key projects include:

Connected Orgs. As companies grow, they often form multiple subsidiaries of their business. Not only is Connected Orgs the first multi-subsidiary expense management solution designed specifically for mid-market teams, it is the only one that powers accounting systems with real time data.

Manager Insights and Reporting. We believe that visibility and reporting capabilities are foundational to creating efficiency. Managers, not just finance teams, now have perpetual access to every expense that has passed through their Inbox and can create powerful reports to monitor spending.

Single Sign-on with SAML. Abacus customers can now give their employees a seamless login experience with SSO.

Around the Office

The team at Abacus also saw a lot of change this year. In May, we moved into our new office space in Midtown. The office boasts a roof deck-themed design and is much more spacious, so we can continue to grow.

We also hired across all of our teams:

  • Engineering: Thomas Moore, Chris Garber, and Josh Hatcher
  • Design: Sydney Mai
  • Customer Success: Stef Kokkovas, Hillary Bedeian, Charlotte Moore, Lindsay Chocholak, Tim Aaron
  • Sales: Andrew Donato
  • Marketing: Pete Hak, Sean Larson, Jeremy Scalzi, Emil Gondos, Lauren Sarfati

In the summer and fall, we had two group volunteer outings with GrowNYC and the New York City Food Bank!

This year also kept our visual designer very busy. Besides the awesome mural she painted in our new office, she also completed a brand refresh to keep us looking so fresh and so clean. You can see the results most dramatically on our newly designed blog.

Cooking up a great 2019

We ended 2018 with one of our best projects yet: bringing the entire office together to produce a cookbook full of our favorite recipes and holiday traditions. You can find the full PDF here:

From our team to yours, have a great holiday, and we’ll see you in 2019.
